La partnership, aperta anche ad altri operatori selezionati della filiera di settore, vedrà Fincantieri nel ruolo di leader del progetto.
Il Gruppo definirà alcuni standard di pescherecci da dedicare al settore ittico italiano eseguendone la progettazione e facendo leva sulle competenze maturate nella costruzione di navi speciali per l’avanzato cluster ittico norvegese dalla controllata Vard.
Le unità saranno caratterizzate dai più alti contenuti innovativi, in particolare in termini di decarbonizzazione e digitalizzazione. Inoltre, grazie alla capacità del Gruppo di integrare il contributo dei suoi centri di competenza interni, il progetto potrà valorizzare i sistemi e componenti tecnologici sviluppati da Fincantieri e dalle sue controllate.
Al fine di promuovere e sostenere l’obiettivo del progetto, Federpesca offrirà una visione sistemica del mercato promuovendo l’iniziativa presso tutte le istituzioni competenti a livello nazionale e internazionale. L’associazione inoltre contribuirà a definire le specifiche tecniche richieste dal comparto anche coordinando i contributi e le richieste degli operatori e avrà in carico la ricerca di nuovi mercati potenziali nell’area del Mediterraneo.
Il rilancio del settore si rende necessario in virtù della notevole riduzione subita dalla flotta da pesca nazionale negli ultimi decenni, che ad oggi conta circa 12.000 motopescherecci, pari al 17% della flotta complessiva dell’Unione europea, con 25.000 occupati. Inoltre è tra le più vetuste e in ritardo di competitività rispetto agli altri Paesi comunitari, con un’età media dei pescherecci pari a 31 anni.
Questa situazione si contrappone a un trend in costante crescita del consumo pro-capite di prodotti ittici a livello globale, europeo e italiano in particolare. Un upgrade esteso della flotta peschereccia risulterebbe quindi indispensabile per coprire i gap che incidono sul mancato soddisfacimento della domanda interna (l’Italia è autosufficiente per non più del 15%), sull’ambiente, sulla qualità e sul costo delle produzioni, sulle condizioni e sicurezza del lavoro a bordo e, quindi, sulla competitività e sulla sostenibilità del comparto.
Il presidente di Federpesca Luigi Giannini ha così commentato: «Una strategia nazionale per i prossimi decenni non può prescindere dal favorire il ricambio della flotta da pesca italiana, rendendo il settore ittico maggiormente attrattivo per i più giovani. Un programma di rinnovamento reso necessario anche sotto il profilo dell’innovazione tecnologica, dell’impatto ambientale, del risparmio energetico, della sicurezza del lavoro e della navigazione, di cui il settore ha estremo bisogno per rimanere competitivo sui mercati internazionali. La collaborazione con Fincantieri da questo punto di vista è senz’altro garanzia di qualità e serietà e siamo molto orgogliosi di portare avanti insieme questo progetto che va nella direzione di riconoscere all’economia marittima un ruolo strategico per tutto il Paeseº.
Dal canto suo, l’amministratore delegato di Fincantieri Giuseppe Bono ha dichiarato che: «L’accordo attesta la grande capacità di Fincantieri, unica nel panorama mondiale, di trasferire tecnologie da una tipologia navale a un’altra, mutuando le soluzioni costruttive più innovative per adattarle, in questo caso, alla dimensione della pesca costiera e mediterranea».
Egli ha poi aggiunto: «Il rinnovo della flotta e il rilancio dell’industria ittica rappresentano obiettivi di rilevanza nazionale, condivisi e sostenuti in primis da Confindustria per lo sviluppo dell’economia del mare. Siamo quindi orgogliosi di poter guidare l’iniziativa, confermando l’impegno del nostro Gruppo anche per questa dimensione socio-economica del Paese».
Fincantieri with the fishing association Federpesca to revive the nationale fishing economy: agreement signed to renew the Italian fishing fleet – Trieste, November 25, 2020. Fincantieri and Federpesca (the Italian National Association of Fishing Enterprises) signed a Memorandum of Understanding today to promote the renewal of the Italian fishing fleet.
Fincantieri will be the project leader within the aforementioned partnership, which will also be open to other selected businesses of the industry. The Group will identify some standards of the fishing vessels specifically intended for the Italian fishing industry, leveraging on the expertise gained by its subsidiary Vard through the construction of special vessels for the advanced aquaculture cluster in Norway.
The vessels will be equipped with cutting-edge solutions, notably in terms of decarbonization and digitalization. Moreover, thanks to the Group’s ability to integrate each contribution of its several expertise centers, the project will enhance the technological systems and components developed by Fincantieri and its subsidiaries.
Federpesca will promote and support the project by representing the fishing enterprises in front of all the relevant national and international institutions providing a comprehensive overview of the fishery market.
The Association will also be involved in setting out the technical specifications required by the sector by coordinating the suggestions and requests coming from the industry, as well as being in charge of scouting new potential markets in the Mediterranean area.
There is a need to re-launch the sector, having the Italian fishing fleet dwindled significantly over the past decades. It currently consists of roughly 12,000 motor trawlers, accounting for 17% of the EU fleet and employing 25,000 people. Furthermore, the Italian fishing fleet results to be the most outdated and lagging behind, in terms of competitiveness (average fishing vessel age is 31 years), among the other EU countries, with a growing trend of per-capita consumption of fish products in the EU market, and especially in the Italian one.
A thorough upgrade of the fishing fleet is therefore essential to bridge the gaps that prevent to meet domestic demand (Italy is self-sufficient by 15% at most), and in turn affect the environment, the quality and cost of production, onboard working and safety conditions, and the competitiveness and sustainability of the entire system.
The President of Federpesca, Luigi Giannini, commented: «A national strategy for the coming decades is needed to encourage the upgrade of the Italian fishing fleet, making the fishing sector more attractive to young people. This renewal program will be aimed to technological innovation, environmental impact, energy saving, safety at work and navigation.
