Parigi, 3 settembre 2026 – Tout est en ordre, tutto è in ordine… parrebbe: traendo ispirazione da gesti quotidiani come fare la fila in un ufficio pubblico aspettando che arrivi il proprio turno, insomma, comportandosi in maniera appropriata, questo evento espositivo esplora la tensione tra ordine e distorsione, neutralità e identità, ordinario e assurdo. Ma, osservando in controluce la filigrana traspare tuttavia qualcosa (anche) di inquietante e allo stesso tempo enormemente piacevole e rassicurante: la soglia (forse già superata, dunque il punto di non ritorno) di una schizofrenia tutta scandinava. Una faglia pronta a generare rotture, magari immediatamente ricondotte alla normalità del quotidiano. Insomma, il «discreto ordine» che caratterizza la vita di tutti i giorni degli svedesi viene posto in discussione da sottili dissonanze, poiché, se ogni cosa sembra avere il suo posto, qualcosa invece resiste, scivola e sfugge.

From September 2 to October 4, 2026, the Institut suédois will present an exhibition combining art and fashion which explores one of the cornerstones of Swedish culture: a collective sense of order, restraint and neutrality. The exhibition seeks neither to celebrate nor to reject this ’good taste’, but to look at it from new angles – to reveal how these norms shape bodies, behaviours and imaginations. Drawing on everyday gestures (queuing, waiting for one’s turn, behaving properly) “Everything is in Order” explores the tension between order and distortion, neutrality and identity, the ordinary and the absurd. The discreet order that characterises everyday Swedish life is challenged by subtle dissonances: everything seems to have its place, yet something resists, slips, escapes.

Through a collection of silhouettes, sculptures, sounds and images, the exhibition presents familiar figures that never quite find their place. Reconfigured mannequins, with unusual proportions and ambiguous identities, line up in queues without any clear direction. The garments, from different generations of designers – both established and emerging – are brought together without any obvious hierarchy. Here, the brand takes a back seat to the relationships between the garments. The art does not illustrate the clothing – it disrupts it, blocks the silhouettes, interrupts the gaze, and introduces friction.

A field of echoes allows for past and present to merge, and for the familiar to become strange. Fashion is no longer conceived as a product or a fixed image; it appears as a system in motion. It is fragile and depends on the context and on the observer’s gaze. Archetypes merge and are reborn in another form, revealing a space where surrealism, humour and the strange meet the ordinary and the mundane. Love is Shouty but Iconic.
