20-23 February 2025 – Booth G5-G6. From February 20th to February 23rd, 2025, Galerie Negropontes will return to Nomad St. Moritz, nestled in the heart of the Swiss Alps.
NOMAD ST MORITZ
On this occasion, the gallery presents Interior Landscape, an exclusive selection of contemporary art and design pieces, carefully curated to harmonise with the breathtaking mountain scenery. Featured artists include Walid Akkad, Agnès Baillon, Georges Bauquier, Mircea Cantor, Eric de Dormael, Garo Minassian, Mauro Mori, Ulrika Liljedahl, Jean- Christophe Malaval, Etienne Moyat, Gianluca Pacchioni, Perrin & Perrin, Benjamin Poulanges, and Elena Syraka. Galerie Negropontes will present a console and a coffee table from the Cremino series, remarkable pieces that perfectly represent Gianluca Pacchioni’s work and embody his constant search for unique materials. Throughout his life he has developed a passion for working with metal and semi-precious stones. Here, this spectacular onyx brings new tones, a dense physicality and striking form.
FUTURE GIFT
Future Gift, by artist Mircea Cantor, originated from a monumental installation first created in 2008. The title’s play on words suggests a paradox: a gift, typically tangible, is depicted here as an absence, a void promising future fulfillment. For Cantor, this apparent contradiction is an opportunity to infuse this void with positive, universal potential – a sincere aspiration to accomplishment. Artist Benjamin Poulanges, trained in ceramics in Italy, presents his original sculpture Visages buste 5. This captivating work bridges abstract art and portraiture, where colours converge, collide, and blend in a dynamic and mesmerising composition. Perrin & Perrin unveil a captivating series of works, including glass sculptures Horizon, Le Brash, Tephra I, and Windows, alongside bronze pieces such as Alto, Bolero, and Nocturnal. Inspired by the ethereal beauty of glaciers and cloudy skies, these creations are brought to life through their innovative Build-in-Glass technique, which enables the artists to continually push boundaries and evolve their art. A hallmark of their artistry lies in the delicate interplay of transparency, porosity, and light, imbuing each sculpture with remarkable depth and brilliance. Complementing these works is Pléiade, a rug designed from an ink by the artists and crafted by the renowned Maison Pinton, adding a rich layer of texture and symbolism to the collection.
Garo Minassian: Twist, 2024. Photo, Hahnemühle metallic bartyta on 2mm dibond, Numbered series 1 5, H 43.1 x L 27.5
GARO MINASSIAN
Through his work, photographer Garo Minassian offers a poetic and intimate perspective on reality. Twist, a striking depiction of tree bark rendered on metallic baryte, serves as an ode to nature and exemplifies his pursuit of the unseen, the ephemeral, and the hidden beauty of everyday life. Minassian is distinguished by his talent for unveiling textures and compositions that elevate both humanity and nature. In his photographs, abstraction arises through meticulous attention to detail: the interplay of light, contrast, and framing transforms familiar elements into refined, almost graphic forms. This unique vision invites a dual interpretation, oscillating between the tangible and the personal, leaving ample space for the viewer’s imagination to roam.
MAURO MORI
Italian artist Mauro Mori is celebrated for his sculptures and sculptural furniture crafted from natural materials such as wood and stone. Drawing inspiration from his travels and the beauty of organic shapes, Mori’s work reflects a deeply artisanal and thoughtful approach to materials. At this event, he will showcase two signature creations: The Listener, a pedestal table sculpted from limestone, and Narciso, a mirror framed in brass. These pieces beautifully merge geometric simplicity with organic sensuality, embodying Mori’s dedication to imbuing each material with a distinct emotional resonance.
Ulrika Liljedahl: Crystal, Nylon sculpture, One off, H 150.7 in Etienne Moyat, Babel, 2022. Sculpted panel, Douglas wood, H 99.06 x L 59.84 x D 3.14
ULRIKA LILJEDAHL
Ulrika Liljedahl’s installation, Crystal, explores the power of pure white. Inspired by the clarity and snow of the Alpine landscape, it features a striking interplay of light. With an intuitive mastery of her chosen palette, Liljedahl crafts extraordinary effects of light and motion. The gallery will also feature Babel and Petal, two intricately carved wooden panels by Etienne Moyat that capture the essence of his artistic vision. Each piece begins with a preparatory drawing, followed by meticulous carving, burning, brushing, and varnishing techniques. Through this transformative process, Moyat pays tribute to the raw beauty of wood, unveiling its natural texture and profound depth.
Éric de Dormael: Pilotis, 2017. Light installation, Brass and LED, One off, H 61.8 x L 15.7 x D 8.6
ERIC DE DORMAEL
Artist and sculptor Eric de Dormael presents Pilotis, a light installation that epitomises his signature minimalist and refined style. This creation transcends its functional purpose, inviting viewers into an imaginative realm where shadows become an integral part of the artwork. Defined by clean geometric lines, Pilotis exudes simplicity and modernity while subtly challenging visual perception. True to de Dormael’s approach, the piece blurs the boundary between utilitarian design and sculptural artistry, creating a harmonious dialogue between light, form, and space.
ELENA SYRAKA
Galerie Negropontes will also showcase a selection of jewellery created by the gallery’s artists, as well as jewellery-makers and jewellers. Among them is Greek jeweller Elena Syraka, who draws deeply from mythology to imbue her creations with a precious, dreamlike quality. Her work highlights the uniqueness of form and incorporates unconventional materials, inspired by the luminous landscapes that cradle some of the world’s most storied civilisations. Also featured is Jean-Christophe Malaval, a jewellery sculptor who creates silver rings and bracelets. His designs take inspiration from science fiction, architecture, and mythology. Jeweller Walid Akkad, inspired by the natural beauty of flora and fauna, presents his Bestiaire collection. Each gold ring and bracelet in the collection symbolises an animal, crafted with the precision of a miniature sculpture. When worn, these pieces transcend their representational origins, evolving into abstract forms that stand as true works of contemporary art.
AGNÈS BAILLON
Eric de Dormael specialises in creating light installations that oscillate between work of art and object. Skillfully sculpting brass, he creates pieces that play with light and shadow, designed to be both wall-mounted and wearable. Sculptor Agnès Baillon presents contemporary cameos in porcelain or resin set in gold, reminiscent of Florentine cameos, and designed to be worn as necklaces or brooches. Ulrika Liljedahl is an artist whose creativity transcends the boundaries of art, fashion, and jewellery. A multi-faceted designer, she pushes boundaries by seeking out original materials. Weaving serves as the unifying element throughout her oeuvre, with nylon as the medium for her art and brass or palladium for her jewellery.
BENJAMIN POULANGES AND NARC DELOCHE
Benjamin Poulanges and Marc Deloche playfully blur the lines between jewellery and pictorial artwork. For these creations, Marc Deloche extracts fragments from Benjamin Poulanges’ canvases. The two artists encapsulate these fragments in plexiglass to create jewel-sculpture ensembles, such as necklaces, rings and cufflinks, accompanied by their Totem. The dominant hues of pure white and deep blue in this selection evoke the pristine clarity of snow and the tranquil vastness of the alpine sky, creating a serene and timeless atmosphere. Each piece, whether sculpture, ceramic, or design, finds its place in this unique setting. The connections between these works are not only visual but also conceptual. Discovery, refinement, and poetry are the hallmarks of this exhibition.
