San Donato Milanese, 30 marzo 2021 – Eni e la società cinese Zhejiang Energy hanno firmato oggi un Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) sulla cooperazione strategica nel settore energetico.
Il MoU stabilisce un quadro di cooperazione volto a facilitare iniziative congiunte tra Eni e Zhejiang Energy in tutta la catena del valore del gas e del GNL in Cina e a livello internazionale. Il MoU si basa sull’obiettivo condiviso dalle società di promuovere una riduzione delle emissioni favorendo il passaggio dal carbone al gas nella produzione di energia elettrica.
Le iniziative identificate nel MoU vanno dallo sviluppo di un accordo di fornitura di GNL a lungo termine alla partecipazione congiunta in progetti di gas/GNL. Usare il gas per produrre elettricità al posto del carbone riduce fino alla metà le emissioni di gas serra di una centrale elettrica, offrendo un immediato progresso nella decarbonizzazione del settore.
Per Eni, il MoU rappresenta un ulteriore passo in avanti nel processo di transizione energetica. L’azienda ha recentemente lanciato una nuova strategia, che la porterà a raggiungere la neutralità carbonica entro il 2050, in tutte le sue operazioni, processi e prodotti. «Nel lungo termine – rende noto Eni -, il gas, che sarà sempre più decarbonizzato, rappresenterà più del 90% della produzione del Gruppo».
Eni è presente nella Repubblica Popolare cinese dal 1984 e, recentemente, ha aperto un nuovo ufficio di rappresentanza a Pechino.

San Donato Milanese (Milan), 30 March 2021 – Eni and Zhejiang Energy signed today a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on strategic cooperation in the energy sector.
The MoU establishes a cooperation framework aimed at facilitating joint initiatives Eni and Zhejiang Energy across the gas and LNG value chain in China and internationally. The MoU builds on the companies’ shared goal of promoting a reduction in emissions by favoring a switch from coal to gas in the production of electricity. The initiatives identified in the MoU range from developing long term LNG supply agreement to joint participation in gas/LNG projects.
Using gas to produce electricity instead of coal reduces by as much as half the greenhouse gas emissions of a power plant, providing an immediate step forward in decarbonizing the sector.
For Eni, the MoU represents a further step in the energy transition process. The company has recently launched a new strategy, which will lead the company to be carbon neutral by 2050, in all its operations, processes and products. In the long term, gas – which will be increasingly decarbonized – will represent more than 90% of Eni’s production.
Eni has been present in China since 1984 and has recently established a new Representative Office in Beijing.
